Caring for Birkenstock Sandals

Birkenstock and Cork Renew

With the right care process, Birkenstock sandals can last for many years.

Birkenstocks are the staple summer sandal. With a contoured footbed, they can be worn comfortably for many hours at a time and days on end.

New Birkenstock sandals have a protective finish on the cork footbeds. However, over time and with regular use, this protective layer wears out. To prevent the cork from drying out and cracking, they need to be resealed.

Kelly's Cork Renew is especially formulated for resealing cork. Best practice is to reseal the cork footbeds every 2-3 months.

Application Process:

  1. Shake the Kelly's Cork Renew bottle gently

  2. Open bottle and remove the excess sealer from the brush by scraping it on the side of the bottle

  3. Apply the sealer thinly around the cork perimeter of the shoes. It applies white, but dries clear**

  4. Once an even coat has been applied, leave the shoes to dry for about an hour (or until all the sealer has turned from white to clear)

  5. We recommend applying a second coat

  6. After 2 coats have been applied and left to completely dry, your Birkenstocks are refreshed and ready to be worn again

**When you are applying the sealer, if any gets onto the sole or upper, simply wipe it off with a clean damp cloth

We highly recommend cleaning your Birkenstock uppers with Dasco Multi Cleaner and then protecting the entire shoe with Dasco Protector.
